94.5k people is a lot of people. It just looked bad b/c the place sits many more than that. Some Nascar tracks don’t even hold that many people and would be tickled to have 90k. Maybe one of these days, a decision will me made based on anything other than a dollar. Nascar would have these guys race the wrong way around the track on 3 wheels if they thought they could sell 2 more tickets. We get 2 races at Fontana and zero at The Rock and 1 at Darlington?! Geez.
They better not lose one . GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
I’m sure that Na$car is taking in consideration the economy now in that area of the country, when you are laid off from work, theres a couple things you have to take into consideration, do I put food on the table and gas in my car to try to find work, or do I go to a Nascar race, which I can watch on TV. Yep, the answer is watch it on TV. Now if this trend stays like it is with no sell outs and lots of empty seats, then Nascar might take a look at it. I’d love to see another race at Darlington, but I think Atlanta is safe for now.
Go Dale Jr & Hms
Well we already lost The Rock…I would hate to see another good track go by the wayside. I kow it wasn’t a full house but I enjoy Atlanta…well except for last weekend.
But business is business so it just might be considered.
Every track so far has had lots of empty seats. They can’t all lose a race It’s just a sign of tough economic times.
you’re gonna see a lot of empty seat this year at all the tracks. With the economy in the toilet, who has the extra money to spend. Lets just hope that the economy turns around before it hurts the sport more than it already has.
I think they will probably lose the fall race there. They had trouble selling out when the economy was good. They will probably give them a chance when it picks up, but I doubt they sell it out. I did notice the announcers on Sunday trying to sell tickets. It was kind of sad to hear them hawking tickets, I hope things pick up.
Well when I was at the second race of Daytona in 07 (when the credit crunch was emerging) the whole back straight stand was empty.
It happens, the credit crunch is preventing people from coming.
They should not lose a race. We are in an economic downturn, people
are losing jobs. More & more people can not afford extras like race tickets. So, the Nascar officials should take that into consideration.
no, very few races will sell out this year because of the economy. the daytona 500 didn’t sell out till the day of the race, even though they offered discounted tickets. people just don’t have the disposable income right now.
It would really suck to lose Atlanta. The track has had some good races/finishes. In reality, I don’t see Atlanta going anywhere and the only way I would support it is if they brought back the Rock.
ditch 1 at atlanta and cali and give one to the rock and kentucky
No, Things are bad all over! If the economy continues to fail we will see tracks fail. It will no longer be a process where Nascar takes a race away because attendance is down. Attendance will most likely be down at 80% of the tracks. They will just shorten the season at some point. I don’t see that happening this year. But if the economy continues to worsen look for some changes next season. Maybe Nascar could schedule some races in the countries where middle class Americans jobs where sent, via NAFTA!
PEACE!
