Split Enz – “I Walk Away” (with intro)

June 20, 2010 15 Comments

Hit from “See Ya’ Round” with intro by Tim & Neil Finn, Paul Hester. You came Out of the world to me My life Parted like the Red Sea We flowed Easy between the rocks and stones Never seemed to stop us The years, ended in confusion Don’t ask me I don’t know what happened But I am A man with a mission Must be the devil I don’t know Finally, marching to a different tune It’s hard to let go Of all that we know As I walk away from you The sun always sets No room for regrets As I walk away from you Reveal whatever you desire To you it may be death defying Your life, slave to ambition Tension your permanent condition So much you’ve always wanted Too much giving you a sore head Finally, marching to a different tune (that’s right) I walk away from you I walk away from you It’s hard to let go Of all that we know As I walk away from you The sun always sets No room for regrets As I walk away from you It’s hard to let go Of all that we know As I walk away from you The sun always sets No room for regrets As I walk away from you Give it to me Give it to me Your inspiration Give to receive Find all we need As I walk away (Neil Finn)

A real shame bands like Split Enz and Squueze never had huge hits in the US. 2 really great bands.

Thanks for this rare footage. I felt a bit awkward and sad seeing Tim intro it after the brothers’ split. But what a fitting song to end this iconic band.
I’ve got the original tapes and arecords, and now the cd’s!!! Split Enz still lives!!!

  9. joh2 says:

The intriguing thing with this track was that it was a completely DIFFERENT Split Enz lineup (no original members) to the one that recorded their first single, “For You” in 1973…

Wow, it’s rare to see Tim and his send off and the late Paul Hester, too, in the intro.
