You’re in luck! I live in this area, so I should be able to give you a few pointers! When you say Muskegon, you want to know where to go and where not to. Some of the city is pretty shady. If you like the small town feel, you might want to try Fruitport. It’s 5 minutes away from the mall and restaurants in Muskegon, with more of a small town feel and lower home prices. Norton Shores in also a nice area, that’s the southeast side of Muskegon. You DON’T want to look in Muskegon Heights… although the home prices are very low, you get what you pay for. It is kind of a scary area.

Other areas you may like and want to check out:
Spring Lake, Grand Haven, Ravenna, Lamont, Coopersville, Nunica, or West Olive. All are relatively close to the highway (and within 30 minutes of Grand Rapids) yet all have a little bit of the small town mentality. Now’s a good time to look around… I’m sure that you can find a good deal on a home! Good luck!
